Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio 3 in 1 Vaccination at Dermacia's Islington Travel Clinic

If you are planning a trip abroad and are concerned about Tetanus, Polio or Diptheria then come to speak to one of our pharmacists at Dermacia's London travel clinic. Diphtheria is a highly infectious bacterial disease that can cause difficulties in breathing and swallowing and can be fatal. It is spread via coughing or sneezing or by direct contact with an infected person's skin lesions. Tetanus is a bacterial infection that is introduced into the body by means of a wound such as a puncture from a nail. It causes severe spasms of the muscles and can be terminal, with around 500,000 deaths each year. Polio  (Poliomyelitis) is a viral infection that can lead to permanent nerve damage which in turn causes limb and respiratory muscle paralysis and is commonly found in areas that have poor sanitation.

Countries at Risk

Diphtheria has been reported in China, Indonesia, India, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, South and Central America and in Papua New Guinea. The Tetanus bacteria is prevalent in India, Africa, china and some South American countries such as Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Polio is widespread throughout Central Africa and some parts of Asia. The only three countries that remain Polio-endemic are Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Dermacia Pharmacy can provide a "3 in 1" vaccine called Revaxis to protect against diphtheria, tetanus and polio as a booster which lasts 10 years, if you have had a primary course of the vaccine.
